Position

Didier Jourdan is Professor at the University Blaise Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand France and Adjunct Professor at the University of Limerick Ireland. He teaches health education in the education department and is the director of the masters course “education and public health”.
He’s the Dean of the Faculty of Education (directeur de l’ESPE Clermont-Auvergne). During the last 10 years he was the head of the ‘health education in schools’ research team (ACTé EA 4281). Before being a Professor at the University Blaise Pascal he was senior lecturer and did research in neuropharmacology at the University of Auvergne (Clermont-Ferrand 1).

Academic record

- 1986 : A Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree at the University Claude Bernard Lyon I and teaching qualification in Biology

- 1990 : An “M2” university diploma in “health education” at the University of Nancy

- 1995 : A masters in neurosciences at the University Pierre and Marie Curie Paris IV and a PhD in neuropharmacology at the University of Auvergne Clermont-Ferrand I

- 1997 : An “M2” university diploma in “drug addiction prevention” at the University of Auvergne Clermont-Ferrand I

- 2005 : A Masters in ethics of health education and a PhD at the University Marc Bloch Strasbourg II

International activities

He was invited Professor at the University of Limerick (Ireland) and at the University Laval in Quebec City (Canada). He’s a member of the scientific committee of the School for Health in Europe Network and of the steering committee of the international school health network.

Community involvement

He is one of France’s leading health promoters and health educators and used to be the national coordinator of the French teacher training colleges’ health education network (UNIRES). This network, created in 2005, aims to support and develop the health education training provided for student teachers. The research team leads the French health promotion program “learning to live together better” and writes teaching and learning materials.

Research directions

His research is focused on prevention, health education and health promotion and concerns three main fields :

  • Practices in prevention and health education in schools and at the community level
  • Assessement of the impact of health Education and health promotion programs
  • In service and pre service education in prevention, health education and health promotion
